The Mauritanian government submitted a bill to Parliament to approve a loan agreement signed between Mauritania and France for the construction of a solar plant that will cover the electricity needs of the cities of Kifa and Guero. The new plant will have 33KW of power. The budget for the project (23.8 million Euros) will be covered by a grant from the European Union of 4.8 million Euros and a loan from the French Development Agency of 19 million Euros. With the same objective of increasing the use of clean energy, a solar energy unit was inaugurated on the rooftops of the Oil Ministry buildings to ensure their energy needs. All public buildings will be equipped with similar solar units in 2014.
