The Arab Forum for Environment and Development closed its sixth annual conference on sustainable energy in Arab countries with the participation of 52 countries and 600 representatives of governments, the public sector, universities, research institutes, regional and international organizations and the media.

According to the report issued by the Arab Forum for Environment and Development, 60 million Arab citizens do not have access to modern energy services, especially electricity, even though the area has many opportunities for exploiting renewable energy, especially solar and wind power.

In 2012, $1.900 million in new investments in renewable energy in the Arab world was recorded, six times the amount in 2004. In 2013, 64 new renewable energy projects are being implemented with a total capacity of 6GW.
